The 49ers announced Tuesday that they have hired John Becker as senior personnel advisor.

"We are very excited to add someone with John's extensive knowledge of the NFL to the 49ers personnel department," GM Trent Baalke said. "His experience in both coaching and player personnel will be extremely valuable to our organization."

Entering his 29th season in the NFL, and his 18th season in player personnel, Becker has been a member of two Super Bowl championship teams (the 1999 Rams and the 2006 Colts). He will have both college and pro personnel responsibilities with the 49ers.

He was the director of college scouting for the Rams from 1992-99 and the coordinator of player personnel for the Colts from 2000-05. He became an area scout for Indianapolis from 2006-08 before retiring from the NFL following the ’08 season.

Becker spent 12 years in the NFL coaching ranks, most recently as the offensive coordinator of the Seahawks (1989-91) and Colts (1987-88).
