The Raiders have rescinded the franchise tag on OLB Kamerion Wimbley and instead signed him to a five-year contract worth $48 million. The deal was first reported by Adam Caplan of FOX Sports.

Under the franchise tag, Wimbley was set to make $11.3 million this season, the average pay of the NFL's five highest-paid linebackers. Instead he will make an average of $9.6 million over the next five years. Per Caplan, $29 million of the contract is guaranteed.

Oakland is currently right near the salary cap, so it is expected that the contract is structured in a way so that money would be freed up this year, then added on in later seasons.

In 2010, Wimbley's first with the Raiders, he started all 16 games and finished with nine sacks.
