Dahl's exit sets up ORG position battle for Falcons

One of the unheralded free-agency success stories was the Falcons' ability to keep its O-line from being blown up. With three of its five starters on the O-line — OLG Justin Blalock, ORG Harvey Dahl and ORT Tyson Clabo — hitting the market, it wasn't clear that Atlanta would have the cap flexibility it would take to keep the group together. The Falcons locked up Clabo and Blalock, and Dahl was the only O-lineman to depart — he signed with the Rams. The Falcons will miss his gritty style, but hosting an open competition at right guard is far from the worst-case scenario the team was concerned about. Mike Johnson, a third-round pick last year, and 2009 fifth-round pick Garrett Reynolds are battling to take over for Dahl. The Falcons would like to use second-year veteran Joe Hawley as a swing backup on the interior, but there's a chance he'll find his way into the competition at right guard, as well.
