Giants DE Osi Umenyiora will report to camp instead of holding out for a new contract or a trade, but his demands have not changed.
Umenyiora did not show up on Friday and was placed on the team's reserve/did not report list.
His current contract goes through 2012. The deal, signed in 2005, was a seven-year, $41.38 million contract. Umenyiora said that in 2008, GM Jerry Reese promised to pay him like one of the top five defensive end in football if his play merited that. Umenyiora was one of the plaintiffs in the Brady vs. NFL antitrust suit.
He started 16 games last season and recorded 11½ sacks.
The way we see it
By showing up to camp, you would think that Umenyiora saves the Giants from a big distraction, but it doesn't appear that Umenyiora will waver in his demands for a new contract or a trade. According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, he doesn't plan to speak to Reese "ever again."
