Despite QB Peyton Manning accepting less than he could have received in his new long-term deal, the Colts informed CB Kelvin Hayden he will be released, according to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.
Hayden was scheduled to make nearly $9 million in base salary for 2011.
In six seasons with Indy, Hayden intercepted nine passes and recorded 37 passes defensed. In 2010, he started all 11 games he played in. Hayden has not played a full season since 2007.
The way we see it
His $9 million cap figure for this season was almost the same as Asante Samuel, one of the premier CBs in all of football. Hayden has struggled with injuries the past few seasons, but even when healthy in 2010, he had been surpassed by teammate Jerraud Powers as the club's best cornerback.
