The Browns could have a new starting free safety, as WKNR-AM in Cleveland and other media outlets are reporting the team will sign free agent Usama Young.

Last year's starter, Abram Elam, is an unrestricted free agent.

Young, who played collegiately at Kent State, is an athletic player who has made only six career starts. He was made expendable by the Saints' acquisition of Jonathon Amaya earlier Thursday in the Reggie Bush trade. Young, 26, played in 11 games last season for New Orleans, starting three. He has three career interceptions.

The way we see it

Young figures as a contender to start opposite SS T.J. Ward on the back line of the Browns' defense. The Browns have been fairly quiet since the negotiating period began.
