The Chargers did some housecleaning on Thursday, releasing five players — including WR Craig "Buster" Davis — and withdrawing a qualifying offer from another.
The team released Davis, LB Brandon Lang, CB Donald Strickland, LB Jyles Tucker and TE Kris Wilson. It also withdrew its qualifying Offer from LB Antwan Applewhite.
Davis, a first-round pick in 2007, never panned out and will go down as one of GM A.J. Smith's worst picks. He caught only 21 passes for 259 yards and a TD in seven games last season. He suffered through injuries through all four of his pro seasons.
