The Giants will release DT Rocky Bernard after failing to restructure his contract, according to ESPN.

Bernard spent the last two seasons in New York, playing in 29 games with zero starts. He has 32 career sacks, three in the last two seasons. The Giants save $2.95 million in cap space with the move, according to ESPN.

The Giants lost DT Barry Cofield to the Redskins late Tuesday night. Rookie DT Marvin Austin and second-year DT Linval Joseph are among the Giants' present options along the interior of their line.
