The Patriots' biggest question mark in this chaotic week of free agency, OG Logan Mankins, will sign his franchise tender, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

Mankins is a three-time Pro Bowler, including last season, when he played in just nine games after sitting out the first half of the season in a contract dispute. Mankins wanted a long-term deal, but eventually signed his tender.

Mankins' agent, Frank Bauer, told ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss that Mankins spoke with head coach Bill Belichick Tuesday morning and that they "both are very happy, happy to get started. Logan is looking forward to being with his teammates and coaches, with a fresh start."

The way we see it

The Patriots' goal should still be to work out a long-term deal to keep Mankins in New England for a while, but this is a big development for a team that doesn't have a lot of big moves to make in free agency. Mankins is one of the best guards in the league and a leader in the Patriots' locker room and now they don't have to worry about him holding out.
