On a fast track to make up for lost time due to the NFL lockout, the Packers managed to agree to terms with 13 undrafted rookies. The players added to the roster as of 1 p.m. CT Tuesday are as follows:
South Carolina WR Tori Gurley, Delaware S Anthony Bratton, Utah WR Shaky Smithson, Ohio State RB Brandon Saine, Arizona State WR Kerry Taylor, Middle Tennessee OLB Jamari Lattimore, South Florida C Sampson Genus, Arkansas OG Ray Dominguez, Youngstown State CB Brandian Ross, Temple LB Eli Joseph, Temple NT Peanut Joseph, Arkansas State CB M.D. Jennings and Minnesota FB Jon Hoese.
The 5-11, 202-pound Smithson might have what it takes to shore up a shaky Packers kick-return game. He ranked first in the nation in punt-return average in 2010 (19.1, with two TDs) after ranking 33rd (9.46) in 2009. Smithson ranked 61st in kickoff returns at 24.1 yards.
Arguably the most intriguing defender among those signing is the 6-2, 230-pound Lattimore, who tied the Middle Tennessee record for sacks in a single season with 11½ previously set by Erik Walden, an impressive Packers pickup last season who will be competing with Lattimore at outside linebacker.
Included in the list of signings are twin brothers Eli and Peanut Joseph out of Temple University. Eli is a 6-1, 243-pound inside linebacker who was second on the Owls in tackles last year. He has bench-pressed 225 pounds 31 times. The 6-2, 290-pound Peanut is a nose tackle who raised eyebrows when he registered 43 reps on the bench press during his pro day.
