Boston College LB Mark Herzlich tweeted on Tuesday morning that he is planning on signing a contract with the Giants.
Herzlich, who missed all of the 2009 season as he was fighting Ewing's Sarcoma (a bone cancer) in his left femur, went undrafted in April. He was projected by PFW's Nolan Nawrocki as a late draftable pick, but no team at the time believed he was worthy of a selection.
Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was the former head coach at Boston College and still has strong ties to the program, which might have factored into Herzlich's decision to sign with the team. New York is in need of some youth in its linebacking corps, though the rookie's best shot at making the final roster will be through special teams.
