The Bears were fortunate in 2010 when it came to keeping players healthy. While teams like the Packers had 15 players land on injured reserve over the course of the season, only two Bears players — backup LB Hunter Hillenmeyer and supplemental draft pick RB Harvey Unga — were placed on injured reserve.
There were Bears players playing through various injuries and your standard bumps and bruises, no doubt. A few starters had to miss a game here and there, but, for the most part, the Bears were in good health and will be when training camp opens.
QB Jay Cutler: Cutler was widely criticized when he didn't play through an injury in Chicago's NFC championship game loss to the Packers. Tests revealed he suffered an MCL sprain — the recovery time for the injury is 3-4 weeks. Players that have attended workouts with Cutler this offseason reported that he's in good condition and not showing any signs of being limited by the knee. The expectation is he will be ready to play when camp begins.
SLB Pisa Tinoisamoa: A knee problem kept Tinoisamoa out of six games last season and the Chicago Tribune reported in May that he underwent a third surgery on his right knee this offseason to repair wear and tear. He has missed 18 games the past two seasons because of knee injuries and is an unrestricted free agent. He would like to play this season and the Bears are interested in keeping him, but durability is an issue for the 30-year-old.
RB Harvey Unga: Unga injured his hamstring early in training camp last year and landed on I.R. before preseason games started. The 2010 supplemental draft pick should be healthy when camp opens, but he will have to compete for a roster spot and carve out a role in the backfield and on special teams.
