Following a meeting with Packers GM Ted Thompson on Tuesday morning, LB Nick Barnett and the team are headed their separate ways.
Barnett tweeted the following message on Tuesday morning: "Just met with Ted, Thanks for the great 8 years. Very blessed 2 be apart of such a great tradition and great fans.. Happy I was able to be here for the great xlv run... I will always keep a Special place in my heart for this team and city."
Multiple media outlets have reported that the team will try to trade Barnett, and if they are unable to do so, the linebacker will be released. Only 30, there should be some demand for a player who has been highly productive in the past. Barnett missed most of the Packers' Super Bowl run last season due to wrist injury that landed him on injured reserve.
The way we see it
Green Bay has a deep linebacking corps, and with the team looking to create some salary-cap space, Barnett was the obvious candidate to let go. There are rumors the Southern California native could end up with the Chargers, who are looking to acquire an inside linebacker.
