The fallout from WR Hines Ward's arrest on misdemeanor DUI charges on July 9 and OLB James Harrison's controversial comments in Men's Journal is to be determined. Discipline for Ward, who reportedly faces an Oct. 6 court date, likely will depend upon the legal resolution of his case as well as NFL rules. Under 2010 league policy, a first DUI offense resulting in a guilty plea or a related outcome would result in at least a fine. (Ward's marketing agent reportedly has denied Ward was "impaired" by alcohol.) Harrison, meanwhile, called commissioner Roger Goodell an "anti-gay slur" in the Men's Journal story, according to The Associated Press. The NFL, in the 2010 league year, could punish players for "conduct that undermines or puts at risk the integrity and reputation of the NFL, NFL clubs or NFL players." Harrison, who also criticized teammates Ben Roethlisberger and Rashard Mendenhall in the story, could face discipline from the Steelers, as well.
