Saints QB Drew Brees said in a radio interview on Wednesday that he believes the lockout will be over soon.
Talking to XX Sports Radio in San Diego, Brees said he has not been directly involved in the negotiations, but hears often from those inside the meeting rooms. The former Super Bowl MVP said he would travel to New York to become personally involved in the talks soon.
"We're very close to a settlement," Brees said. "We're at that point in the negotiations where there's just a few more details that need to be ironed out."
There have been talks that the deal will be done surrounding the league's owners meetings on July 21 in Atlanta. Brees said that date is an important one for both sides.
"Obviously there's a big sense of urgency, especially in the next week with the owners' meeting on July 21," Brees said. "I think we're all optimistic and hoping we can finalize a deal for that time."
