Former Dolphins first-round pick Daryl Gardener was arrested on the campus of University of Central Florida on a charge of domestic-violence battery, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel is reporting.

Gardener, 38, was arrested with his girlfriend, 49-year-old Sonia Cabrera at 1:55 a.m. ET Tuesday. Cabrera said that Gardener started the physical altercation and head-butted her. Gardener claimed Cabrera threw a cologne bottle at him and hit him with a tire iron. Cabrera is accused of aggravated battery.

According to the arrest report, Gardener said that Cabrera had been angry with him because she saw him dancing with another woman at a club near the UCF campus.

Gardener, who was selected No. 20 overall in the 1996 draft, spent eight seasons in the NFL with the Dolphins, Redskins and Broncos, recording 19 career sacks.
