Domestic violence charges against Falcons CB Chris Owens have been dropped in Superior Court of Gwinnett (Ga.) County, according to Owens' lawyer. The news was first reported by PFW correspondent D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Owens was charged last week for destroying the apartment and personal items of his ex-girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child. It was reported that there were holes in the apartment walls, a big-screen TV had been smashed and that items such as jewelry and clothing had been covered in bleach.
According to Ledbetter, Owens believed that the woman, Latia Terry, was not happy with their relationship and was seeking "revenge" by pressing charges against the third-year cornerback.
"He is pleased that she decided to dismiss the case," Owens' lawyer, Randall M. Kessler, said to the newspaper. "He looks forward to working with her to raise their son together."
Owens was selected as the Falcons' Man of the Year in 2010 for his community work and was nominated for the league-wide Walter Payton Award last season.
