Jets QB Erik Ainge, a former fifth-round pick, announced via Twitter that he tore the rotator cuff in his right (throwing) shoulder on Friday.
Ainge spent the 2010 season on the non-football illness list while he battled his addiction to heroin, cocaine and alcohol. He also dealt with depression, as outlined in this ESPN report.
"Found out i have a torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder today, no fun, o well, could always be worse, im sober and loved, all that matters," he tweeted.
Ainge likely wouldn't remain on the Jets' roster for 2011, as he is low on the quarterback depth chart that includes Mark Sanchez, Mark Brunell, Kevin O'Connell, Greg McElroy and Drew Willy.
