Steelers WR Hines Ward added another championship to his résumé on Tuesday night, becoming the 12th winner of "Dancing With the Stars."
The former Super Bowl MVP beat out finalists Kirstie Alley and Chelsea Kane for the Season 12 title, becoming the second professional football player and fifth athlete to win on the show. Emmitt Smith won the title in 2006. Warren Sapp, Jason Taylor and Jerry Rice are previous runners-up. Other contestants with NFL ties have included Chad Ochocinco, Kurt Warner and Lawrence Taylor.
Attending Steelers fans were seen waving their "Terrible Towels," while his teammates offered their congratulations via Twitter.
Troy Polamalu tweeted, "Congrats to Hines, bringing the Mirror Ball Trophy to Pittsburgh!!!"
LaMarr Woodley said: "Congrats 2 hines and also congrats 2 #steelernation since ur votes played a big role!!! #DWTS."
The winner is determined by a combination of fan votes and scoring by the judges. All three couples received perfect scores from the judges, but Ward and his partner, dancer Kym Johnson, edged out the competition in fan voting.
