49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, the team's second-round pick in April's draft, had minor surgery on his lower left leg following the draft. Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee first reported the story.
"It's nothing serious at all," Kaepernick told The Bee.
The 49ers issued the following statement about the surgery:
"The 49ers are aware that Colin Kaepernick underwent a procedure to address a pre-existing injury and were fully aware of the injury at the time of the draft. The 49ers have no concerns regarding his health and are confident that he will be ready for the 2011 NFL season."
Kaepernick is expected to compete with Alex Smith to start for San Francisco in its first season under head coach Jim Harbaugh.
