Right now, Christian Ponder looks like the starting QB for the Vikings. But hold that thought a minute. This pick does not by any means eliminate the chances of Minnesota acquiring Donovan McNabb or another veteran. In fact, that's still almost certain to happen.

Ponder, Joe Webb and a vet to be named later will head into camp and hash it out. And until we know who that vet is and how good he is, it's best to temper your enthusiasm — or lack thereof — for Ponder and a very open QB position right now.

The Vikings' offense will be focused around RB Adrian Peterson, but there are too many good passing options for them to not get involved. WRs Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin and TE Visanthe Shiancoe are a fine trio and will make any quarterback in this offense better. New offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave clearly signed off on this pick and views Ponder as the future starter.

Will it be Ponder right away? Likely not, despite current appearances. It's best to sit back and let the Vikings make more moves before graduating the rookie to fantasy-sleeper status.
