To no one's surprise, the Patriots traded their second first-round pick, the 28th overall selection, to the Saints for New Orleans' second-round pick this year (pick No. 56) and a first-round pick in 2012.

The Saints used the 28th pick to select Alabama RB Mark Ingram, a player many people connected to coming to New England.

The Patriots will have three second-round picks on Friday: the 33rd, 56th and 60th picks. They now have six picks for 2012. New England took Colorado OT Nate Solder with the 17th pick of the draft.

The way we see it

The Patriots, who stockpiled on picks this year, only had five in 2012 coming into Thursday, and now will have another first-round pick, and they could get another 2012 pick on Friday. There are not a lot of glaring needs for New England, who can afford to wait until Friday to start bolstering the team's front seven and pass rush. They should be able to address that need with their first pick on Friday and be pleased with the selection.
