Jaguars fans are rejoicing after their team moved up six spots in the first round to select Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert — and with good reason.

Gabbert is an exciting prospect with tremendous upside who could lead the club for many years.

Just don't expect him to do so next season.

GM Gene Smith has stated repeatedly that starter David Garrard can get the job done, and he would like his rookie QB to have time to learn and develop behind the veteran Garrard.

Not good news for fantasy owners who were hoping to make Gabbert their starter.

While we would not be shocked if the rookie does supplant Garrard at some point next season, we would not recommend drafting Gabbert.

Gabbert's long-term fantasy outlook is promising, as he can make all the throws and looks the part of a smart, strong-armed passer, but the Jaguars are a smashmouth running team that lacks playmakers among the receiving corps.

Our best advice: be patient before anointing Gabbert as a fantasy star.
