It seems clear the Broncos will not select a quarterback with the No. 2 pick in the NFL draft and could be leaning towards Tim Tebow as their quarterback of the future, according to an ESPN report Thursday.
In an interview with ESPN, Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway was quoted as saying he is Tebow's "biggest fan" and, when asked about QBs Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert, explained, in part, what may be the organization's plans for the future.
"Those guys, obviously, there's holes in every young guy coming out," Elway told ESPN's Ed Werder. "There's not an Andrew Luck, a [Matthew] Stafford, a [Sam] Bradford. Those guys are all very good quarterbacks in my mind, but there are holes in every one of them — as there were in Tebow.
"I think where we are as an organization, we're going to go with Tim."
The way we see it
While there is still expected to be competition at quarterback in camp, this is the first time Elway has publicly uttered the words, "we're going to go with Tim." While the Broncos were never expected to draft a quarterback at No. 2, their intensive research led some to believe it was a possibility. Elway's comments will likely end that speculation.
