A FOXSports.com report Saturday said that the 49ers held a private workout for LSU CB Patrick Peterson. The 49ers hold the seventh overall pick in this year's draft and Peterson is considered the top-ranked corner in the 2011 NFL draft.
Peterson reportedly visited the Niners early last week before getting back together with the team for the workout, which was held in Florida and featured Florida Atlantic QB Jeff Van Camp and FAU WR Lester Jean, both draft hopefuls this year, working against Peterson.
Peterson had pre-draft visits with most of the teams selecting at the top of the draft, including the Broncos (No. 2), Bills (No. 3), Bengals (No. 4), Cardinals (No. 5), Browns (No. 6), Titans (No. 8) and Cowboys (No. 9).
The way we see it
Many observers believe the 49ers could be looking to address the QB position with their top pick. However, with high-priced veteran CB Nate Clements having lost a step and carrying $16.25 million in base salary for both the 2011 and '12 seasons, it wouldn't be a surprise to see them add a cornerback early.
