The Browns were fined $50,000 for "improper contact" with QB Colt McCoy and other players before the beginning of the lockout, PFW Browns correspondent Tony Grossi of The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, citing a source, reported Thursday.

On Thursday night, Grossi, writing on his Twitter account, said that he had been told the fine was related to QB Colt McCoy's "comments about meeting (head coach) Pat Shurmur (before the) lockout."

The Browns have appealed the fine and are confident it could be overturned, according to The Plain Dealer.
