New York Giants owner John Mara has officially become a member of a Manhattan jury after previously serving as an alternate.

Mara got the call Thursday when one juror was unable to continue after getting sick, possibly from food poisoning. Mara becomes Juror No. 1.

The owner attempted to avoid serving on the jury of the major international drug case last week, citing his obligations help with the NFL's ongoing labor struggles, as well as preparations for the draft.

It is not known if Mara will become the jury's foreman, a title that often falls to the No. 1 juror. The trial is expected to last another two weeks.
