Coming off his first Pro Bowl appearance, Falcons CB Brent Grimes may not get a long-term contract worked out with the Falcons this offseason with the lockout lingering and so much uncertainty about the next Collective Bargaining Agreement. He knows he's in a good position, though, and should top the list of players Atlanta would like to discuss an extension with when things settle down.

Grimes solidified his position as a starting-caliber corner in 2010 and has impressed the team, going from an undrafted free agent to becoming a quality cover corner with playmaking ability. Grimes will become a restricted free agent this offseason and Atlanta extended a first-round tender to him. The Falcons want to make sure their top players don't hit the open market. There's a good chance Grimes will first sign his tender and a long-term deal could be worked out during the season.

The fourth-year veteran started 16 games for the first time in his career last season and made 87 tackles, five interceptions and had a league-high 23 pass breakups.
