Giants owner John Mara received a poorly-timed summons to jury duty, and he can't get out of it.
Mara has been chosen as an alternate juror for a drug trial that could take up to three weeks, according to The Associated Press. He requested to be dismissed because of the upcoming NFL draft and his role on the league's labor committee.
The players' antitrust lawsuit trial against the league begins on Wednesday in Minnesota. The first piece of business the judge will decide is whether or not to grant an injunction to the lockout. Mara will not be able to attend.
Mara said that he would be needed for potential negotiations between the players and owners that could be sparked from any ruling in the coming weeks, but the judge declined his request to be dismissed.
