First, Ravens S Tom Zbikowski steps into the ring to box, and then Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco goes to the pitch to play soccer. The next NFL star to pick up a new sport during the lockout? It could be Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles heading to the track.

Charles told The Beaumont Enterprise that he is considering a professional track career should the NFL lockout continue.

"All I'd have to do is get an offer by a team that could get me running track because, you know, football season, you don't know how long it's going to go with the lockout," he said.

Charles led the NFL with a 6.4-yard rushing average in 2010, rushing for 1,467 yards on 230 carries for the AFC West champions. He was an All-American running track at Texas, running the 100-meter, 200, and 4x400-meter relay.

Charles said he would, "Just try to get an agent, get a sponsor, try to get on a team. Maybe I could sponsor myself.'

The way we see it

Running track during the lockout could help Charles stay in shape while fixing his craving for competition. But, like with all players working out during the lockout, the injury-risk becomes more of a concern with the lack of health insurance provided by the NFL.
