A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib, according to a spokesman for the Garland, Texas police department speaking with Tampa radio station WDAE. Talib has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Talib was involved in an altercation between his sister, his sister's boyfriend and his mother.
According to the initial police report and two sources familiar with the case, per the Dallas Observer, Talib attempted to hit his sister's boyfriend, Shannon Billings, with a pistol. Following a struggle, Talib then allegedly fired shots at Billings as Billings ran away.
Bucs GM Mark Dominik released the following statement: "We are deeply troubled by the serious charges filed against Aqib Talib. Due to current labor circumstances, we will withhold any further comment or action."
Talib recently completed his third season in the NFL and is coming off a year in which he recorded a career-high six interceptions in just 11 games. The Kansas product has 127 tackles, 35 passes defensed and 15 interceptions in his career.
