The Dolphins have made no secret about improving their offense this offseason, and head coach Tony Sparano maintained the 'Fins will still run the ball. At the owners meetings in New Orleans, Sparano said that even though it "may not be popular with everybody," he wouldn't change his style of running the football. Sparano would not talk about the two backs not under contract, Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, and all signs point to them playing elsewhere next season. Sparano did mention the two backs on the current roster. "We have a couple young backs that we know a little bit about in Lex Hilliard and Kory Sheets. But it's going to be a position that we address one way or the other," he said. Hilliard did not have a carry in 2010 and Sheets missed the entire season with a torn ACL.

The Dolphins' rushing attack in 2010 ranked 21st in the league after finishing fourth in 2009. Part of the problem was the interior offensive line, which should be improved in 2011. As for the backfield, Sparano referenced the success Lions rookie Jahvid Best had catching balls out of the backfield, showing off his speed. And Sparano would know — Best had a 53-yard catch-and-run TD in the Lions' win over Miami. We know that the Dolphins want a speed upgrade, and that could mean the 'Fins wait to draft one of the speedy backs, such as Oklahoma State's Kendall Hunter, as opposed to taking Alabama's Mark Ingram with the 15th pick like many people are predicting. And with such inexperience between Hilliard and Sheets, don't be surprised to see the Dolphins dip into the free-agent pool as well to address the need at tailback.
