Hall of Fame OLB Lawrence Taylor was officially declared a sex offender and must register as such after receiving his sentence on Tuesday from a judge in Rockland County Court in New York. Taylor pleaded guilty in January to sexual misconduct and patronizing a 16-year-old prostitute.
Taylor will avoid jail time due to his plea, but he was placed on six years' probation as well as having to register as a sex offender.
"He never wanted to tarnish his image," Taylor's lawyer, Arthur Aidala, said. "Mr. Taylor readily accepts responsibility."
A judge will decide on April 12 which level of offender the former Giants star is, as sex offenders are tagged as Level 1, 2 or 3 for low, medium or high risk. The Associated Press quoted a New York state spokesman, who said the obvious difference is that Level 1 offenders do not have their names and photos posted on a public Internet site.
