Although it's likely little more than one star player admiring another, DE Justin Tuck has told ESPN that he'll be pushing free-agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha to join the Giants when football is back open for business and the lockout restrictions are lifted. Tuck may be persuasive, but the connection appears a bit unlikely. It's not that the Giants are completely frugal in free agency — or even projecting that they might be if last year's free-agency rules carry over to 2011. It's more that the move would be one of excess. The Giants are in decent shape at corner, even if Corey Webster, Terrell Thomas and Aaron Ross need to make more impact plays. Although the Giants have not tipped their hand as to what they might target in free agency or the draft, it appears that a corner — especially Asomugha, who will command a very high salary in the open market — is not on their menu.
