While the Colts won’t hesitate to upgrade the interior of the defensive line through the draft if they are able to match value with any of their six picks, we hear the club’s decision to tender a trio of potential free agent DTs — Antonio Johnson, Daniel Muir and Eric Foster — suggests they are not disappointed with the production at the position. And while finishing the season ranked 25th overall in run defense is not where the club wants to be, it is important to remember that it showed drastic improvement stopping the run during the final month of the season. Figuring prominently in the turnaround was Johnson, who was the team’s most dominant run defender after being hampered by injuries in the first half of the season. Once Johnson returned to form, word is the play of his teammates — especially Muir — picked up considerably. With Fili Moala making strides at the under tackle position, the Colts are at their best with Muir and Johnson splitting snaps at nose tackle.
