The Jaguars signed WR Jason Hill to a two-year contract on Thursday and informed WR Mike Sims-Walker that he is not in the club's plans for 2011.
Hill, a third-round draft pick by the 49ers in 2007, was claimed off waivers by the Jaguars last November. He played in the last six games for the Jaguars, making 11 receptions for 248 yards (22.5 yards per reception) and one touchdown.
Sims-Walker, a third-round selection by the Jaguars in 2007, had 122 career receptions for 1,648 yards and 14 TDs.
The way we see it
Neither of these moves by the Jaguars come as a huge shock to team insiders. After a breakout season in '09, Sims-Walker failed to take the next step and become a true No. 1 wideout last season. He possesses great size and hands, but does not have top-end speed and has a habit of disappearing in games.
Hill, who does have the speed to take the top off a defense, impressed in the final six games last season. While he is probably not the No. 1 wideout the team covets, he has proven that he can be productive when healthy and developed a nice rapport with QB David Garrard late last season.
