The Lions re-signed LB Zack Follett and released veteran LB Julian Peterson on Thursday.
Follett confirmed via Twitter that he received a contract for 2011. Follett recorded 16 tackles and one pass defensed in his second season in just five games and two starts for the Lions. He suffered a neck injury, and there were thoughts he might retire.
Peterson, a 12-year veteran, started 14 games in 2010, recording 83 tackles in his second season in Detroit. Peterson was due $8 million next season.
The way we see it
A team with depth issues at linebacker will likely take a flier on Peterson, who showed he still has plenty left in the tank. The Lions, though, don't have a whole lot at linebacker outside DeAndre Levy but couldn't afford to hold on to Peterson under his contract terms.
