The rebuilding process in Denver continued on Thursday as the Broncos released a pair of defensive linemen. The team cut DTs Jamal Williams and Justin Bannan, both 16-game starters a year ago.

Both players were set to receive bonuses upon the arrival of the 2011 season.

Williams was due to receive $1 million on the third day of the league season while Bannan would have received $500,000, according to the Denver Post.

The way we see it

Bannan's release comes as more of a surprise than the release of Williams.

Williams had played nose tackle his entire career and, at the age of 34, the organization was likely unsure of how well he would fit into a 4-3 defensive scheme.

Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen has stated that he wants a quick, athletic defense, and Bannan doesn't exactly fit that mold.

The Broncos now have a major lack of depth at defensive tackle and will have to address the issue via free agency and/or the draft.
