The Patriots, who have been looking to add depth on their defensive line, have signed DL Marcus Stroud to a two-year contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Stroud played the past three seasons for the Bills after spending seven years with the Jaguars to start his career. His production has tailed off in recent years, as he registered only 7.5 sacks during his time in Buffalo and was not the run stuffer the team hoped he would be.
He was cut by the Bills in February.
The way we see it
In the Pro Football Weekly 2011 Draft Guide, we list defensive end as the Patriots' top need to address. Though the 310-pound Stroud can help in that category, at age 32, he is far from a long-term answer at the position. New England likely will still take a player at that position early in the draft, as there are several top ends in this year's class.
