The Raiders have signed CB Stanford Routt to a contract extension, according to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.
Routt, a sixth-year veteran, had his most productive season in 2010, starting 15 games and recording two interceptions and 13 passes defensed. He also returned a pick for a touchdown.
The contract of Pro Bowl CB Nnamdi Asomugha voided following the season, making him a free agent.
The way we see it
If Asomugha does not return, which is a safe assumption, and if the team does not get another corner, Routt suddenly becomes the Raiders' top option at the position. The extension also shows that the Raiders believe Routt can be their No. 1 corner and they wanted to be sure to hold on to him.
