Ex-Bears safety Dave Duerson was found dead Thursday night at his home in Miami. No cause of death was given by the Miami Dade County coroner, which confirmed the death.

"We are stunned and saddened to hear the tragic news regarding Dave Duerson," the Bears said in a statement released by the team Friday morning. "He was a great contributor to our team and the Chicago community. Today is a difficult day for all of us who loved Dave. We'll miss him. Our prayers are with his family."

Duerson, 50, was a four-time Pro Bowler and a member of the heralded 1985 Super Bowl champion Bears team. The Notre Dame graduate played 11 seasons in the NFL, winning championships with the Bears and Giants. He finished his career with three seasons in Arizona.
