Chargers head coach Norv Turner promoted Steve Wilks, the team's secondary coach the last two seasons, to assistant head coach/secondary.

"Steve has done an outstanding job with our secondary since he's been here and now we're going to be asking even more of him," Turner said.

"I'm excited about the opportunity. It's a chance for me to grow and expand my abilities and gain valuable experience," Wilks said.

In two seasons, Wilks has helped bring the Chargers from 31st in the league against the pass to first in 2010.
