The Broncos have recently re-opened contract talks with veteran CB Champ Bailey, but the way we hear it, the two sides are not close to reaching a deal. It appeared that Bailey would remain in Denver back in October, when he agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract with the team. That contract was pulled off the table by upper management at the last minute and contract talks were shut down for the remainder of the season. We hear the deal being offered to Bailey now is at best equal to the contract he previously was offered, which is less than he figures to get if he hits the open market. Bailey, who turns 33 in June, was recently named to his 10th Pro Bowl, an NFL record for cornerbacks. While his age is becoming a concern, players like Packers CB Charles Woodson, 34, are still playing at an extremely high level. A source close to the team said that Bailey heard a lot of pitches when he was in Hawaii and fully expects Bailey to have plenty of options if he chooses to leave.
