Jim Zorn, who has tutored quarterbacks in Seattle, Washington and Baltimore in the past decade, is the new quarterbacks coach of the Chiefs.

Zorn spent last season as Joe Flacco's mentor with the Ravens, but he was let go following the 2010 season. He will now oversee the development of Kansas City QB Matt Cassel.

"We are excited to finalize our coaching staff today with the addition of Jim Zorn," head coach Todd Haley said. "As a former head coach with more than two decades of experience playing and coaching the quarterback position in the NFL, Jim has a tremendous working knowledge of the game, and he will play a big role in the continued development of our football team."

Prior to his one season with the Ravens, the 57-year-old Zorn spent two years as head coach of the Redskins, compiling a 12-20 record.

The way we see it

Although Zorn quickly flamed out in Washington and lasted just one year in Baltimore, his firing clearly upset Flacco, so the QB obviously felt like he was doing a good job.

In K.C., Zorn will be charged with helping Cassel progress coming off a Pro Bowl campaign. With the Chiefs promoting former offensive line coach Bill Muir to coordinator, replacing QB guru Charlie Weis, the team wanted an experienced name to work with Cassel. Zorn should fill that role nicely, although Haley still will work very closely with his signalcaller.
