Falcons LB Coy Wire, a special-teams ace for Atlanta who played 15 games in 2010, has been given a two-year contract extension by the team. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Wire, 32, has spent the last three seasons as a reserve for the Falcons. He was originally a third-round draft pick of the Bills in 2002.
The team also announced that S Erik Coleman has been released. Coleman, who will be 29 in May, made only one start last season after starting every game for Atlanta the previous two years.
