The Eagles and Saints both had to deny Internet rumors about their coaching staffs following Super Bowl XLV.

On Sunday, a rumor began that Saints head coach Sean Payton was leaving New Orleans to take a position with the Cowboys. The Saints released the following statement:

"Coach Payton is the Saints Head Coach; he is not going to the Dallas Cowboys in any capacity."

On Monday morning, the Web site Philly2Philly.com published a story reporting that Jon Gruden would be hired as the Eagles' next head coach, replacing Andy Reid, as early as Tuesday. This rumor forced the Eagles to make the following statement:

"Early this morning, we have received several inquiries regarding the rumors regarding Andy Reid and Jon Gruden. This was simply a rumor and there is no basis to it at all. It is simply not true."

The way we see it

Both teams had to go on the defensive as the power of the Internet can make rumors go viral, and each rumor seemed pretty ridiculous. Payton was "reportedly" leaving to be the Cowboys' GM, which would mean he would take Jerry Jones' role. And while there has been some turmoil with the Eagles, that rumor also came out of left field.
