The Titans went away from their own staff on Friday and interviewed Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey and Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell for their vacant head-coaching position.
Mularkey and Fewell are the first two candidates that the Titans have interviewed who have not been in-house. They previously interviewed offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger and offensive line coach Mike Munchak.
Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams pulled his name out of the running. Fewell also interviewed for the Broncos' head-coaching job.
The Titans are looking to replace Jeff Fisher, with whom the team parted ways after 17 seasons.
The way we see it
Munchak remains the front-runner for the position, but the Titans' interviews of Mularkey and Fewell on Friday show they are willing to look outside the organization. Whoever gets the job will have the task of finding a new quarterback to replace Vince Young and improving a defense that was ranked 26th in 2010.
