Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said that Carolina would stick with a 4-3 defense at his introductory press conference last month, but we hear he has plans to mix in other looks on "D" as well. PFW caught up with Panthers S Charles Godfrey, who has started 43 of the 44 games in which he has played since Carolina drafted him in 2008, in the Super Bowl media center this week. He said he has met with Rivera since the coach was hired to replace John Fox and they discussed the plans for the defensive scheme. "He said he has the players that he needs defensive-wise," Godfrey said. "He said we'll mix it up (between 3-4 and 4-3 looks) and do a little bit of everything." Rivera ran both a 4-3 and a 3-4 during his stops as a coordinator in Chicago and San Diego. Godfrey was one of the team's top playmakers on "D" last season, leading Carolina with five interceptions.
