DALLAS — According to the NFL's pool report, QB Ben Roethlisberger was hot during practice on Thursday during the Steelers' practice at Texas Christian University.
Roethlisberger threw touchdown passes to Hines Ward, Emmanuel Sanders, Mike Wallace and Heath Miller. Roethlisberger took heat for appearing at a piano bar on Tuesday, singing and dancing, but head coach Mike Tomlin appeared to be impressed with his play in practice.
"I thought he had a good day,'' Tomlin said. "I thought it was a good day of preparation overall.''
Tomlin was less excited about the prospects of injured C Maurkice Pouncey playing on Sunday. Pouncey is battling through a high ankle sprain and has yet to practice this week. He will need to make it through Friday's session to have a chance to play against the Packers on Super Bowl Sunday.
His replacement would be Doug Legursky, who has had a good week of practice.
Another injured player, DE Aaron Smith, also looks shaky for the game. He suffered a torn triceps and has been out since midseason. Ziggy Hood has started in his place since Smith went down.
But the Steelers' defense didn't miss a beat on Thursday. S Ryan Clark had two interceptions and CB Ike Taylor and S Troy Polamalu each added one. All the interceptions came against second- and third-string QBs Byron Leftwich and Charlie Batch.
