Bears DB coach Jon Hoke interviewed for the Eagles' vacant defensive coordinator position, the team confirmed Monday.
The Eagles are looking to replace Sean McDermott, whom they fired after the season and who is now the Panthers' defensive coordinator.
Hoke is in his second season as the Bears' DB coach. The Bears' passing defense ranked 20th in the league this season, and the defense finished fourth in points allowed.
Saints secondary coach Dennis Allen also interviewed for the position before accepting the Broncos' defensive coordinator job last Monday. According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the Dolphins blocked the Eagles from talking to Todd Bowles, and the Bengals blocked them from talking with Kevin Coyle.
The way we see it
The Eagles finished the year 12th in the league in defense, but had the league's worst red-zone defense. The unit has some talented youth with DE Brandon Graham and FS Nate Allen, both of whom had solid rookie seasons before landing on injured reserve in December. The Eagles are clearly looking at assistants with experience working with defensive backs.
